Studio Policies

On this page, you’ll find information about my current teaching schedule, lesson formats, accepted payment options, and missed lesson times. Students, family members, and caregivers are strongly encouraged to review the policies and ask questions about them before beginning lessons with Paige Talley Music and before submitting their first flat monthly fee for membership.

Paige Talley Music Studio does not condone violence, bullying, or discrimination. Studio members and those who care for them who exhibit this behavior toward their teacher or other students will be barred from membership immediately and will not receive a refund.

Teaching Schedule

Piano lessons are conducted during the nine-month school year, from August 1st to June 1st. Winter and summer holiday breaks occur between December 15th and January 15th and during June and July. Lessons are not held on days when there is a school holiday, public holiday, or long weekend unless via special arrangement on a case-by-case basis.
You can quickly schedule a lesson using the appointment page link. Available lesson times are subject to change. The studio will be given ample notice of any adjustments to the months, days, or times that lessons are offered.

Lesson Format

Piano lessons are conducted in person and online via Zoom. In-person lessons are currently held in Stafford, Virginia. Virtual lessons include full audio and video, providing an up-close, aerial view of the teacher’s keyboard, a side view of the teacher seated at the piano, and a view of any books and sheet music using the screen sharing function.
Anyone with access to a keyboard, computer, and decent Wi-Fi connection can participate in a virtual piano lesson. Students who are not local to Stafford are encouraged to utilize this distance learning option if it does not harm their progress. Virtual lessons are also available to students in the case of illness, weather, or limited access to transportation.

Lesson Meeting Times

Piano lessons are available in 30-minute or 60-minute periods. Lessons must be conducted on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule.
Students may request all in-person lessons, all virtual lessons, or an alternating combination of both. Requests to switch from an in-person lesson to a virtual lesson and vice versa must be communicated at least three hours before the scheduled lesson time.

Payments

Lesson fees are charged as part of the payment to join the music studio. Membership fees are charged monthly and are due on the day of the first lesson each month. Payments must be received before the start time of the lesson. If payments are received more than two days late, a $10 late fee will be assessed. Cash, check, credit card, and bank transfer payments are accepted. All payments are non-refundable. View the Paying For Lessons page to learn more.

Missed Lessons

When you register for lessons, you reserve a weekly or bi-weekly time in the schedule. Because specific times are set aside for specific students, a student who does not attend a lesson will miss the benefit of that lesson. However, students who have taken lessons at the studio for three consecutive months will be offered one additional 30-minute lesson each school year, included in the monthly fee, that they may use during the summer break, winter break, or as a make-up lesson that year. Beyond this, missed lessons or canceled lessons will not be made up. Lessons will end at their scheduled end time and the monthly membership fee will not be reduced due to missed lesson time. Students are responsible for the full cost of any missed or canceled lessons.

If you know in advance that you need to miss a lesson due to travel, work, or a school-related event, reach out to notify the studio at least twenty-four hours before your scheduled lesson time. If notice is received at least one month in advance of the conflicting lesson, students have the opportunity to select a different weekly or bi-weekly meeting time for the affected month. The new meeting time will be based only on the available openings in the schedule. Paige Talley Music does not guarantee that a “rescheduled lesson” will be available nor the opportunity to return to the initial meeting time.

Exceptions may be made for prolonged sickness or extenuating circumstances on an individual basis and at the teacher’s discretion. Schedule permitting, make-up lessons will be offered if the teacher is sick or unable to attend a lesson. If the schedule does not permit a make-up lesson, students will receive a choice of an alternative lesson assignment or a credit applied to their next payment month.

Ending Lessons

Students can discontinue lessons at any time before the start of a new month.

If the studio policies outlined on this page do not properly support you or your family member’s musical journey, please first talk with Paige and, if necessary, shop around for a music studio that better fits your needs.
